Ephesians 3:18-21 NLT/NASB

18 And I pray that you and all God’s holy people will have the power to understand the greatness of Christ’s love – how wide and how long and how high and how deep that love is.
19
May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.
20
Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us,
21
to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever. Amen.

To be successful in living the abundant life God intends for us, followers of Christ must be able to tap into the power that is available to us. Paul teaches about this in Ephesians chapter 3. In verses 18 and 19, he explains that we have access to this power when we understand and experience the love of Jesus. This power that we receive is God’s power, that no one or nothing else can offer.

In verse 18, Paul prays that not only we individually understand the great measure of Christ’s love, but we lay hold of it along with all of God’s people. This is vital and powerful. An isolated Christian can know something about the love of Jesus but his grasp of it is bound to be constrained by his limited experience. It takes us to be engaged in the Body of Christ to more fully comprehend and experience the full dimension of the whole love of Christ. Then, God Himself fills and floods our entire being and the Body of Christ, enabling each of us and the church as a whole to be effective ambassadors of His love and His Gospel.

When we have absolute confidence and complete trust in God’s love, the ability to do all things is made available to us. The more we realize how much God loves us, the more we become whole and complete in Christ.

Paul teaches in Ephesians 3:20 that God is able to work superabundantly, far above and beyond what we ask or imagine, according to the power that works within us.

God has that ability to do all things beyond even our wildest expectation but this is according to the power that works within us. In other words, no power working in us means there will be no power of God coming through us. Agree?

This is such an important truth but I suspect that for many of us, this is hidden from us from time to time. We sometimes attempt to change certain aspects of our life or strive to achieve a goal without recognizing and appropriating the power that is available to us.

And this power, it comes only from knowing and experiencing the love of Jesus. It means that we must recognize and believe He is loving us in a way that is intimate and personal. To experience the love of Jesus, it also means we must spend time with Him and open our hearts to him. It is about embracing His unconditional and faithful love toward us. It is about attributing all the wonderful things happening in our everyday life to our Lord Jesus in thanksgiving and worship. We must acknowledge that everything happens in our life – the good as well as the not-so-good – God causes it all to work for our good (Romans 8:28). As we consistently dwell on and receive the love of Christ deep in our hearts, we open up every aspect of our lives for the power of God to work in us and through us.

Yes, the power has to be at work within us to transform us more and more into the person God intends us to be so that He is able to work through our lives to fulfill all that He wants to accomplish through us.

As we begin to increasingly encounter the love of Jesus in a personal way, bitterness and anger against others begin to have no place in our hearts. This love then empowers us to forgive that person whom we have found hard to forgive for the past many years.

As we engage and experience deeply the extent and measure of Christ’s love, we are compelled to share His Gospel, teach His Word and build His Kingdom. This love empowers us with boldness and anointing to win souls for Christ. It is so important you and I fulfill the Great Commission because there are many people in our world who have not yet known and experienced the love of Jesus and therefore do not have His power working within them. God has commissioned you and me to go out there to be His ambassadors.

Would you surrender yourself to the love of Christ and be fueled by His love to do all that He has called you to?

Let us pray.

“Dear God, I thank You for Your great love that never ever fails to find me and reach down to me wherever I am at in life. It is my prayer and desire that I know and experience more of Your love each day in my life and allow Your power to work within me to transform me into the likeness of Jesus Christ. I praise You that as I surrender my life to Your love, Your power working inside of me is going to cause me to walk in Your ways and will victoriously. I thank You for all the lives whom You are going to empower me to touch and save in the days to come as I yield to Your great love. In Jesus’ Name, I pray. Amen.”
