You Have The Mighty Advantage
Besides our physical senses, emotions and mind, all of us have a spirit within us. This inner spirit draws us to things of the supernatural and spiritual realm.
When we receive Jesus as our Lord and Savior, the Holy Spirit of God comes to live in us, giving new life in our spirit. The Holy Spirit communicates to our spirit, to give us guidance, teaching, help, comfort and peace. This is Who we have living inside of us! What a great privilege we have as believers of Christ.
After His resurrection and before He ascends to heaven, Jesus says to His disciples in John 16:7 (NASB/CEV), “…I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I go away. The Holy Spirit cannot come to help you until I leave. But if I go, I will send the Spirit to you.”
How great is the love of Jesus! He comes, He lives, He dies, He resurrects, He goes back to heaven, all for the sake that you and I receive the best. Jesus has given all who believe in Him the best advantage in life – the gift of the Holy Spirit.
Our responsibility is to depend on the Holy Spirit and to follow the Holy Spirit, so that we are constantly treading on the path of life God intends for us.
We must recognize the vital relationship between the Holy Spirit and the Word of God. Apart from the Word of God, the Holy Spirit is hindered in speaking clear and life-changing truth to us. For He always instructs and leads in full alignment with the Word of God. At the same time, we are not able to fully understand the Word of God apart from the illumination given by the Holy Spirit.
Let us make a renewed commitment to daily read and study the Word of God. Know that through this, we position ourselves to daily receive afresh from the Holy Spirit spiritual insights, divine guidance and empowerment. At the same time, seek the Holy Spirit in our study of God’s Word. Only He is able to grant us the divine understanding and revelation.
As we do this, we are attuning our spirit to be sensitive and receptive to what the Holy Spirit is instructing us. Some of the ways the Holy Spirit may communicate to us are through an inner impression to do or not to do something, a vision, a sense of peace, a Bible passage or a sense of comfort.
What we ought to develop is a constant awareness of the Holy Spirit living inside us, and a lifestyle of seeking His guidance. Above what we think and feel about something or someone, always pause and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal to us the way He wants us to act and behave. And, choose to heed and follow the instructions and leading of the Holy Spirit. Remember, it is to our advantage that the Holy Spirit has been given to us. Utilize this supreme advantage, and see how your career, family, finances, studies and relationships advance and flourish!
When we live our life led by the Holy Spirit, we grow and mature as disciples of Christ, doing things that glorify God. We know this because Jesus tells us in John 16:14 (CEV), “The Spirit will glorify Me by taking My message and telling you.”
And in John 15:8 (NASB), Jesus tells us, “My Father is glorified by this, that you bear much fruit, and so prove to be My disciples.”
The Holy Spirit always leads us to glorify Jesus and Jesus tells us we glorify Him when we bear much fruit. This refers to a life of holiness where we display the fruit of the Holy Spirit – “love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control” (Galatians 5:22 & 23).
I believe the fruit also refers to the spiritual fruits we produce for God’s Kingdom – the lives we win and disciple for Christ. When we live a life following the Holy Spirit, we will always be introducing Christ to others and sharing the Gospel with them.
God’s plan for all of His children is that we live a life of supernatural success and blessing. Such a life can be lived not by our natural ability and strength, but only by the supernatural power we have through the Holy Spirit. God blesses us so that we can be a blessing to others. The greatest blessing we can give to someone is the love and salvation of Jesus. Be led by the Holy Spirit in your daily life and every person your eyes set on becomes someone you want to share the Gospel with.
Let us pray.
“Holy Spirit, I thank You that You are like the wind beneath my wings, enabling me to soar higher, go further and achieve more than what my natural ability can. I acknowledge that You are the best Counselor and Helper in my life. O Heavenly Father, I commit to be Your true disciple who glorifies Your Name. Help me to live a life of holiness that brings honor to You. Here I am, use me as Your mouthpiece to preach the Gospel to the lost and lead them to receive Your salvation. Use me as Your vessel to not only contain Your blessings, but to let the blessings flow out to others. In Jesus’ Name, I pray. Amen.”
