Be Constantly Aware

John 14:16 (NKJV)
And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever.

These were the words of promise and comfort that Jesus gave to His disciples when He knew the hour for Him to go to the Cross was nearing. He promised that a Helper will be given. Not only that, this Helper will abide with us forever. The word “abide” means to dwell, to reside, to stay, to bear patiently and to remain stable or in a fixed position. The next beautiful part of this promise from Jesus is, this Helper abides with us “forever”. It means for eternity, twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. We will have this Helper abiding with us forever. Isn’t that wonderful?

A couple of verses down the same passage in John 14, Jesus reveals more about this Helper.

John 14:26 (AMP)
But the Helper (Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor – Counselor, Strengthener, Standby), the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name [in My place, to represent Me and act on My behalf], He will teach you all things. And He will help you remember everything that I have told you.

Jesus teaches the disciples about the characteristics and the role of this Helper in the lives of believers. This Helper is none other than Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is everything we need in any situation. When we are going through a period of emotional turmoil or are crying our hearts out over a hurting matter, the Holy Spirit is our Comforter. He comforts us and restores us with His peace and joy. When we have been wrongly accused or misunderstood by others, the Holy Spirit is our Advocate. When we do not know what to pray and how to pray, the Holy Spirit intercedes on our behalf. In times that we need guidance, He counsels us. During periods of our lives when we feel drained emotionally and are physically fatigued, the Holy Spirit is our Strengthener. He recharges us and fuels us up! Indeed, what a wonderful Helper we have in the Holy Spirit.

Praise God! Jesus also tells us in John 14:26 that the Holy Spirit will teach us all things. This literally means every single thing. Yes, you didn’t hear or read wrongly. The Word of God says ALL things. These “all things” could refer to parenting, your career, your ministry, your relationship, family, finances, health, relationship with God, and any other area of your life that you need help and guidance in.

The first step to have access to the Holy Spirit’s help and teaching is to be aware of Him abiding in us and with us. Then we will know to be sensitive to His leading and guidance. Yes, we need to constantly remember that we have the Holy Spirit with us all the time. Awareness and knowledge that we have this Awesome Helper is important. The next step is then to follow and obey the leading of the Holy Spirit. Such sensitivity to the Holy Spirit’s leading only comes through daily and regular fellowship with God.

So from today onwards, let us constantly be aware of the Holy Spirit’s presence in us and be led by Him.

Come, let us pray.

“Dear Heavenly Father, I thank You for sending me such an Awesome and Wonderful Helper – the Holy Spirit. I thank You that in Him, I have all that I need. I pray that I will be more aware of the Holy Spirit and be sensitive to Him, rather than my natural surroundings.  Every day of my life, I want to be conscious and aware of His presence. It is my desire that every day as I read of Your Word, as I fellowship and spend time with You, I will become more and more sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit.  Thank You God, for the Holy Spirit inside of me. Hallelujah! In Jesus’ Name I pray, Amen!”
