What Jesus Is Doing Now
This happened some time ago. My friend and I signed up for swimming lessons with an instructor. During this particular lesson, we were brought to the deep pool for the first time. To help us get used to the depth, the instructor told us to jump in the water. As our feet approached the floor of the pool, we were to jump high enough to the surface of the water, so we could breathe before we went back down again. The instructor told us to do twenty jumps. So my friend and I started doing so, while the instructor stood between us.
After a few jumps, I lost my footing when landing on the floor of the pool, and could not jump high enough to the surface of the water to breathe. I lost my momentum and in the next few jumps, no matter hard I tried, I could not get above the surface of the water. I was getting breathless. During these few moments – which seemed like an eternity at that time – the instructor was facing my friend and was not looking at me. He was further than an arm’s length from me, so I could not reach him. I could not call out for help in the water either. I could only wait for him to turn around and save me. And yes, he did. Before I ran out of breath.
It sure feels good to be saved!
Though I felt breathless and a little panicky, I somehow did not get to the point of feeling desperate or helpless. Do you know why? Because I knew my instructor was there. I knew he could and he would save me, when he saw I was in trouble.
It sure feels good to be around someone who can save you in times of need.
And I thank God I have Someone in my life Whom I can count on to save me, all the time. He is not like my instructor who sometimes had his back facing me. My Savior, He always watches over me and protects me. My Savior is Lord Jesus.
Hebrews 7:24 & 25 (NLT/NKJV)
24…because Jesus lives forever, His priesthood lasts forever.
25 Therefore He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.
What a great and heartening truth about Jesus. He is able to save ‘to the uttermost’. This is such a rich truth. Our Lord Jesus is able to save at all times, in and through all circumstances, for all people. Jesus saves ‘to the uttermost’. No one, no one at all, is beyond the reach of Jesus’ saving power. He reaches out to save any one who would come to Him. Jesus saves ‘to the uttermost’. Jesus has saved us from the power and eternal consequences of sin, and He continues to still save us in our everyday life. He has all resources to deliver us from the most dire circumstances and He has all ability to meet our most acute needs. What a wonderful Savior our Lord Jesus is!
Not only does Jesus save us, Jesus always lives to make intercession for His people (Hebrews 7:25). Jesus is our Living God. He has died once on the Cross and has risen. He can never die again. He always lives. Pause and just think of this. Right now at this moment, Jesus our Savior is interceding for you. He is mediating, praying, asking on your behalf in the presence of God our Heavenly Father. And Jesus is always doing this! Jesus knows and understands what we need better than we do. So we can be assured that He is always interceding for our best interest.
‘Jesus always lives! He has the ability to save to the uttermost! He is perpetually interceding for me!’
It is nine days before Christmas. I have been preparing for Christmas in different ways, while managing my work and other commitments in life. Today, this truth about Jesus is a very timely and needed boost to my faith. The Holy Spirit is telling my anxious heart Jesus is abundantly able to save to the uttermost. The Holy Spirit is whispering to me that I am not alone, for Jesus is ever living interceding for me.
What a comforting and strengthening promise to hold on to as I remember and celebrate the birth and works of our Lord Jesus this Christmas.
Join me in this prayer.
“Dear God, thank You for reminding today that Jesus is my ever living Savior. Not only is He able to save me at all times and through all situations, Jesus is always lovingly interceding on my behalf so that I am walking in God’s will, receiving God’s best. I surrender all my fear, anxiety and worry to You, O Lord. I thank You that as I do so, You are filling me afresh with Your love and power. Father, Your Word says Jesus saves those who come to Him, and there are many people around me who do not know Jesus. I pray, O Lord, You lead me to win one person to receive Jesus as Lord and Savior this Christmas. Thank You, Lord. In Jesus’ Name, I pray. Amen.”
