I once read that the word ‘Christmas’ comes from the Old English words Cristes maesse, which mean ‘the feast day or festival of Christ’. Another source I read says ‘Christmas’ means ‘the mass celebration of Jesus Christ’.

While I am not certain of the accuracy of these sources, I find what they say apt and meaningful. For at Christmas, we remember and give thanks to Jesus for coming to earth to die for our sins, to deliver us from the eternal condemnation of our sins, and to draw us to God our Heavenly Father. Christmas is certainly worth whipping up a feast or festival for the masses to celebrate. After all, the Word of God tells us that the coming of Jesus is “good news of great joy… for all the people.” Luke 2:10 (NASB)

I remember a friend once shared how in her childhood, she prepared a party on her birthday and had invited friends to celebrate this special day with her. When the day finally came, she was filled with excitement, expecting a great celebration. The scheduled time of the party came and went. But, no one showed up! My friend was very disappointed. And since then, she had always made it a point to remember birthdays of others, and blessing them in her own manner.

I felt sad even as I listened to my friend’s childhood encounter. Truly, a celebration is not much of a celebration if the people we are expecting are not there to be with us.

Now, I am thinking, the coming of Jesus Christ, is good news that brings great joy. This certainly deserves our huge celebration! And this good news of great joy is not just for ourselves, our family and close friends, but for ALL people. So who do you think Jesus wants celebrating with Him as Christmas comes? Yes! ALL people! Every person on earth!

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have whole and everlasting life.” John 3:16 (NKJV/MSG)

Out of the love for whom that God gave His only Son, Jesus? For the WORLD!

“…He is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent.” 2 Peter 3:9 (NLT)

Who does Jesus desire to repent from sin, turn to Him to receive the whole and everlasting life He has come to give? EVERYONE!

But what does it take for EVERYONE in the WORLD to come to know the good news of great joy, and celebrate Christmas for what it really means? Of course, it is going to take the power of God to fulfill this.

But, how did God choose to give the world His greatest Gift? God chose to bring salvation to mankind through His Son, Jesus. When God wanted to give His greatest Gift, a Child was born for us. It is through Jesus’ humanity that He paid the price for our sin and delivered to us the Gift of salvation and relationship with God. God chooses to give to people through people!

And this principle continues throughout the Scripture and applies in all our lives. I find it hard to think of any blessing I have from God that has not been brought forth through another person in one way or another.

We may think, we cannot reach the whole world. But, we can reach out to the people in our world. We can, but will we?

We may say, we cannot get to share the Gospel with everyone. But, we can tell it to ‘every someone’ in our sphere. We can, but will we?

Brothers and sisters in Christ, I believe you and I have been born for such a time as this to bring the Good News to all people in our world, so they may receive and experience the great joy. God wants to bless others through us. God wants to use you and me to let the WORLD whom He loves receive the whole and everlasting life Jesus has come to give. God is waiting on you and me to bring EVERYONE to turn to Him.

Let us rise up to be the ones to bring the Good News of Jesus to ALL the people in our WORLD so that EVERYONE truly celebrates Christmas for what it truly is. This is who Jesus wants celebrating Christmas with Him.

Let us pray together.

“Dear God, thank You for loving me and for giving me Your precious Son, Jesus, so that I can have a whole and everlasting life. Teach me, O Lord, to love as You love, and give to others as You give. This Christmas season, I want to celebrate with more than just feasts and presents, I want to celebrate the way Jesus would want to. With all the people in the world. So, Lord, use me to deliver Your Good News of great joy and blessings to others. Holy Spirit, empower me to daily touch lives and win souls for Jesus, every day leading someone in my world into God’s Kingdom. In Jesus’ Name, I pray. Amen.”
