Less Of Me, More Of You
John 3:30-31 (NIV)
30He must become greater, I must become less.
31The one who comes from above is above all; the one who is from the earth belongs to the earth, and speaks as one from the earth. The one who comes from heaven is above all.
I believe that today, this is what our Father wants to tell many of us. Not just to remind us about how we have to strive toward the ultimate goal of becoming like Jesus but also to remind us that in the whole process or journey, our identity in Christ. I feel that many Christians in today’s context are leaning towards putting a frosted glass pane over their lamps rather than completely blocking out their light. What do I mean by this? I’m referring to people who don’t mind letting people know that they are Christians, but one look at their life and you know that it hardly exemplifies Christ, and the quality of their lives that they lead are at best, mediocre or below average by God’s standards. My point being, their flesh still exists way more than their spirit man, or in other words, they have lost the fire and the passion for the Lord that they once had.
Indeed, I can totally relate to how it’s like to feel like that but for those of you who always say that you’ve lost passion for God, I want to be honest with you and say that it’s not everyday that you will feel ‘on fire’ for God. Some days you just feel like doing things your way or reverting to your old ways, and that is completely normal because even though our Spirit has been made new when we received Jesus as our Savior, our flesh hadn’t really undergone that same life-changing transformation. This results in a spiritual war being waged on a day to day basis, with some days being easier than the rest but the reality is that the fight between good and evil is as real as it can be. However, do you know the good news? The truth of the matter is that as long as we are on God’s side, it’s impossible to lose this war, because He is above all! It really boils down to what course of action you take when you feel those emotions of hopelessness or discouragement. Will you let all those thoughts get to you and cause you to abandon your faith, or will you persevere and proclaim that the Lord is above all and that He has His plans for you? Remember that as long as we stand on His Word and His Promises and act accordingly, the victory will always belong to the side of the Lord.
So how do we constantly stand on what our God tells us? This is where reading the Word of God is extremely important. More than just helping us to tide through the seasons, it empowers us with truths that will cause us to walk in victory, to set the captives free and to bring healing to the sick. For some of us this won’t come across as a habit, but if anything, it is a commitment to always fall back on what He says even when your flesh is kicking you and telling you to not do it. As you consistently do so, I tell you, you will indeed start to see less of your flesh and more of Him in your life. So, if you feel like you have lost passion for God, I would like to remind you once again that we walk by faith and not by our sight, or in this case, our emotions. God says it, so that settles it, no more questions asked. Therefore, I really encourage you to make it a point today to start reading the Bible on a daily basis. I assure you the benefits you will reap from doing this will be beyond your wildest imaginations.
Dear Heavenly Father, I thank You that You are sovereign over everything and everyone. It is my prayer today that no matter how I am feeling in this instant, I will always fix my eyes on You and fall back on Your Word. I pray that even as I continue to do as You have commanded, You will set a fire in my heart that burns for You and to see Your Name being glorified in all the world. In times where my soul and flesh may fail me, I pray that my spirit will remain strong because of the strength You give me. May I be that light that shines brightly for you, not feeling any bit of shame but being proud that I am part of a divine family that wants only the best for me and those around me. Teach me to endure and love as You have during Your time on the earth Lord, and in Your Most Mighty Name I pray, Amen.
