Walk UNITED With God

Listen To Audio Here.

It is easy to say a prayer in the morning and commit our day entirely to God. This is all well and good, and we should keep doing it. But sometimes, as we step out of our home, we complain about how unfairly treated we are at work or how mundane our life as a homemaker is.

Yet, as believers and disciples of God, you and I understand that this is not how God wants us to live our life. God does not want our lips to confess one thing but our actions demonstrate another.

The Bible records in Genesis chapter 5 the generations of the descendants of Adam. In verses 21 to 24, we read a record of Enoch. In this short account of Enoch, it says twice that “Enoch walked with God” (Genesis 5:22, 24).

In Hebrews chapter 11, where great examples of faith are recorded, we read in Hebrews 11:5 (ERV), “Enoch was carried away from this earth, so he never died. The Scriptures tell us that before he was carried off, he was a man who pleased God. Later, no one knew where he was, because God had taken Enoch to be with him. This all happened because he had faith.”

Enoch walked with God. Enoch was a man who pleased God. Enoch had faith. And there is an extraordinary record of him being taken to heaven without experiencing death.

There must be something very significant we can learn from the life of this man. For me, what stands out and stirs in my heart most is – “Enoch walked with God”.

To walk is to literally take one step after another in a particular direction. Here, to walk also means how we live – how we think, feel, speak, behave – how we conduct our everyday life. And God wants us to be like Enoch, to walk UNITED with God.

What does it mean to walk with God? It is to go in the direction God goes. It is to move the way God is going. A person who walks UNITED with God is one who knows which way God is going and goes the same way. God always moves in opposition to sin because sin destroys and wrecks human life. And God always moves towards showing love and compassion to others, serving them. So when we walk UNITED with God, we are people who are unswervingly opposed to sin in our life, refusing to condone it nor allow it to rule or reign in our life. And we will always be having a heart for people, sharing God’s love and Gospel with them.

To walk with God also means to keep in step with Him. You cannot walk with somebody if you do not keep in step with him or her. Sooner or later there comes imbalance. To walk UNITED with God is forever moving at the same pace God moves, never too impatient and move ahead of Him in our own way, and never disobeying His commands and going the way we wish instead. It means taking a step at the point when God instructs and commands.

To walk with God means there is no discord between us and God. “Do two walk together unless they have agreed to do so?” (Amos 3:3). To walk UNITED with God, we must be in complete agreement with God. We see things as God sees them, love as God loves, and agree to do things as He commands and as the Holy Spirit reveals.

Are you walking UNITED with God?

Before we can walk UNITED with God, our heart must first purpose to step into the path He directs us to. We must be strengthened to follow the way God leads us to. This strength comes from God when our heart wholeheartedly commits to follow Him. The Word of God tells us in 2 Chronicles 16:9, “For the eyes of the Lord range through the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to Him.”

Is your heart UNITED with God?

Do you want to be a person like Enoch in your generation? You can start walking UNITED with God only when you unreservedly give your life and your heart to follow His heart and His ways. Then you will live and conduct your life like you are ONE with God. This means when you think, feel, speak and behave, you reflect God’s nature and character. When others hear you and see you, they see Christlikeness through you. This is how I want my life to be! What about you?

Let us pray together.

“Heavenly Father, I thank You for calling me into a personal relationship with You. Thank You for Your promise in Isaiah 41:10 that You are with me, always strengthening, helping and upholding me. I give my heart to You, O God. I wholeheartedly follow wherever You lead me. Holy Spirit, help me and empower me to daily walk UNITED with God, so that how I live my life shines the nature and character of Christ, that people around me may come to know Him and glorify our Father in Heaven. In Jesus’ Name, I pray. Amen.”
