Proverbs 8:10-11 (NIV)
10 Choose my instruction instead of silver, knowledge rather than choice gold.
11 for wisdom is more precious than rubies, and nothing you desire can compare with her.
This chapter in Proverbs talks about the characteristics of wisdom and how precious it is. Let’s face it, in wherever that we have been placed and in every single thing that we do, we could always use as much wisdom as we can get. The good news for us as believers in Christ is the truth that as long as we are willing to ask and receive, God will be the One Who gives His wisdom to us, that we need not rely on our own judgments and humanly wisdom to make choices and decisions because many of us tend to slip up and make the wrong decisions when we go by our own reasoning. However, as easy as I may have put it, the reality of the situation may not be that simple. And that is where a lot of us tend to use our own wisdom to overrule God’s wisdom just because it sounds totally illogical at that point in time.
Having walked the faith for a while now, I have faced some ups and downs in my walk with Him, that’s for sure. What I have found is that God likes to stretch the boundaries of our faith a lot, not because He wants to break us and cause us to fall away. Instead, what He wants is for us to come to Him with a faith like a little child’s and to trust that whatever He says, goes. It’s interesting to know this because I have come to the realization that the more you walk with Christ, the greater your faith becomes. Situations may get more complex and hard to handle, but our faith just has to grow simpler and simpler for God to work His Power into those areas of our lives that desperately need His intervention. So, when we are talking about wisdom, it really boils down to the action of hearing what God has to say for that part of your life and you acting it out in faith and in obedience, no matter how silly it may sound to you at that point in time. Simple faith are the key words.
Of course, with that being said, it proves the point also, that knowledge is indeed important. Not any kind of knowledge, but knowledge of God’s Word and the revelations that He gives to you. In the verse Proverbs 8:10 mentioned earlier, it tells us to choose wisdom and knowledge over silver and gold, which is still very applicable for the society we live in and the lives that we lead in this era. Sometimes, things look way more lucrative and attractive to us than what the Word of God tells us to do, causing some of us to sway and make the wrong choices as a result. That is why we have to have the knowledge that even though God’s wisdom may not be physically visible compared to the things before your eyes, it is tangible in your life and it is way more precious than the immediate things you see, because it is an assurance of a life that is pleasing to God and a life that prospers and is blessed to be a blessing. Thus, choose today to listen to what He has to say for you, I am sure He has something to say to you for every area of your life and in every difficulty that you are facing right now.
Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for being our compass and our counsellor. Father, today we want to commit our very lives unto Your loving hands. We know that in our own wisdom and strength, we can barely do anything but we thank You that You have graciously made Yourself available to us that we may seek You in all the things that we do. Father, we pray that we will be unshaken by the things of this world and of evil forces that seek to disrupt and destroy the plans that You have for us because of the blood that Your Son has shed on the cross. We thank You that victory belongs to those who trust and obey Your Word and we just want to proclaim that into our lives right now. Bless us that we may be a greater blessing to those whom You have placed around us. We pray all these in Jesus’ Name, Amen.
