The Beaming Clay
Jeremiah 18:1-6 AMP
1 The word which came to Jeremiah from the Lord:
2 Arise and go down to the potter’s house, and there I will cause you to hear My words.
3 Then I went down to the potter’s house, and behold, he was working at the wheel.
4 And the vessel that he was making from clay was spoiled in the hand of the potter; so he made it over, reworking it into another vessel as it seemed good to the potter to make it.
5 Then the word of the Lord came to me:
6 O house of Israel, can I not do with you as this potter does? says the Lord. Behold, as the clay is in the potter’s hand, so are you in My hand, O house of Israel.
Jeremiah is the prophet God has called to speak to the people of Israel, who by now, have turned away from God and are steeped in idolatrous practices.
In this passage of Scripture, God begins by telling Jeremiah to go the potter’s house, for there Jeremiah shall hear God’s words.
The restoration of our land and our world begins with us believers of Christ, obeying God’s words to arise, and go to the Potter’s House – the House of God, the Church. As we gather as the Body of Christ, God will cause us to hear His words and encounter His presence and power. When we come together to worship and fellowship in the House of God, He will cause His glory to manifest in a dimension that we may not be able to experience individually.
When Jeremiah arrives at the potter’s house, he sees the potter working at the wheel.
God is always working in our individual lives as well as corporately in our church. God never ceases to work good and great things in our lives and in His church. His Hands never leave us but are always molding and shaping us as He deems best. But you and I must yield ourselves to the Hands of God and be willing to be placed on the Potter’s wheel.
As Jeremiah watches the potter at work, he sees how a vessel is spoiled in the making and the potter reworks it into another vessel.
In the Potter’s House, every piece of clay, every vessel-in-progress is very precious to the Potter. Even when the clay is flawed, marred and blemished, the Potter never fails to see something beautiful in the spoiled clay. The Potter then immediately gives the clay the necessary make-over so that it emerges as a vessel filled with purpose and usefulness. The clay cannot see the end result it is going to become until the work is finished by the Potter. The clay cannot become the beautiful vessel it is meant to be unless it remains in the Potter’s House.
When you and I continue to be planted in the church and in the fellowship of His people, beautiful transformation in our individual lives keeps taking place. Each of us continues to grow and bloom to that amazing vessel God has intended for us to be. As every believer in the church submits to the works of the Lord, the Body of Christ is daily strengthened to do greater works for the glory of God’s Kingdom.
“…Behold, as the clay is in the potter’s hand, so are you in My hand, O house of Israel,” says the Lord in Jeremiah 18:6.
The House of God is in the Almighty Hands of our Lord. The Lord’s Hands are always upholding the church and leading her to keep advancing and growing where believers are daily added to the House. You and I are the church representing Jesus Christ wherever we do our lives in.
2 Corinthians 4:6 & 7 GNT/NLT
6 The God who said, “Out of darkness the light shall shine!” is the same God who made His light shine in our hearts…
7 We now have this light shining in our hearts, but we ourselves are like clay jars containing this great treasure.
God is shaping and fashioning us to be clay vessels that contain the great treasure, the light of His Gospel.
“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven,” Jesus instructs us in Matthew 5:16 NKJV.
Let us be obedient and faithful clay vessels being consistently molded in the Hands of our Potter. Let us be the ones who bring many people into our Potter’s House so that they too may experience the beautiful transformation in the Hands of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Join me in this prayer.
Dear Heavenly Father, I praise You and give You all glory. We are the clay, You are the potter; we are all the work of Your Hand. I thank You as I daily yield myself to Your Hands, You continually shape me and transform me to bear the likeness of Christ Jesus. Fill me afresh this day with Your love and power, that I may shine Your light and share Your love in ways I never did in the past. Help me and empower me to daily win people for Your Kingdom, that the House of God may be filled with people feasting on Your salvation and goodness. In Jesus’ Name, I pray. Amen.
