The Word That Gives Life (Part 1)
About a month ago, I was away for an overseas training exercise with the soldiers in the unit I am in charge of, in preparation for an upcoming evaluation. Our training area was infamous for its mountainous terrain. We were expected to scale over 2,000 meters above sea level across a span of four days with combat gear weighing at least 15 kilograms.
Having less than a month to prepare myself, I was concerned if I could manage the climbs, let alone motivating and making sure that the 160 soldiers behind me complete the course. Not only was the elevation challenging, the mountains were so densely vegetated that one could easily be lost in the forest for days without proper navigation skills.
A day prior to the march, I called my best friend to share with her the challenge ahead of me and requested for prayers. During our conversation, she said something that encouraged me deeply: “The God who has created these seemingly indomitable mountains is the same God who loves you, died for you and now lives in you.” At that very moment, God reminded me of this truth found in His Word:
Psalms 121:1-2 (NKJV)
1 I will lift up my eyes to the hills – From whence comes my help?
2 My help comes from the Lord, Who made heaven and earth.
Right at that moment, faith arose within my spirit. I realised that I had been focusing on the problem when in the problem itself lies the solution! The Bible verses continued to stir within my spirit as I looked out of my windows and fixed my gaze upon those mountains. The mountains were still as tall but the lens from which I looked upon them had changed. The Word of God has transformed my perspective. The enormity of the mountain was no longer associated with fear or worry. It was now associated with the power and strength of God. The size of the mountains was a reflection of the might of my God. The bigger those mountains were, I was reminded that even bigger my God was and the stronger I was with Him. The Word of God infused my spirit with life and I was all ready to take on the challenge ahead of me!
Friends, no matter what situation you are in, remember that God is the Creator of all. He is sovereign and He is in control. The same God that is ruling over it all is the same One that is living in you. He will not let you be tested beyond what you can bear (1 Corinthians 10:13) and you can be sure that as the trial gets bigger, His grace is still always sufficient for you (2 Corinthians 12:9)!
Let us pray.
“Dear Father, I know You will never leave nor forsake me. I thank You that Your strength and power for me will always increase bounds ahead of my challenges and I can never have insufficient resources to overcome them. I dedicate myself to dig deep into Your Words every day and especially when facing the storms in my life. I know Your Words bring life and empower me to be more than a conqueror. In Jesus’ Name I pray, Amen!
