No Wonder He Is Wonderful

Isaiah 9:6 (NIV/MEV)
For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

I love these four Names of Jesus, the Son of God and our Savior. Centuries before Jesus’ birth, God already has given His Word through prophet Isaiah, that Jesus is our Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

We now live in an era where this prophecy has been fulfilled. Praise God! Every Christmas is a reminder that God fulfills every of His promises. Every Christmas is a season for us to thank God for the Gift of His Son He has lovingly, graciously and sacrificially given to us.

As I meditate on these four Names that describe the character of our Lord Jesus, I am once again amazed at the wonders of our Savior. Each of these Names takes care of an important aspect of our lives. Jesus is the Gift from God that keeps on giving into every dimension of our life, so that our life is made whole and complete!

Jesus is our Mighty God Who gives us the strength and resources to meet all of our life’s demands. Jesus is our Everlasting Father Who takes care of the destiny of our life, not just on this earth, but into the eternity. Jesus is our Prince of Peace, Who takes us through any disturbance or distress in life.

Today, God is drawing me especially to Jesus being our Wonderful Counselor. Jesus is our Wonderful Counselor Who gives us wise advice when we have to make a decision and when we face a difficulty. How wonderful is that!

Jesus is our Wonderful Counselor. He is not an angry, punishing or remote counselor. Jesus perfectly understands what we are going through and He guides and advises us while He accompanies us through whatever we are facing, because He loves us. What a Wonderful Counselor Jesus is!

In Hebrew, the original language that the Book of Isaiah is written in, ‘wonderful’ is ‘pala’ which means ‘wonder’ or ‘miracle’ or ‘something uncommon or out of ordinary’. Jesus, our Wonderful Counselor, is more than a delightful, pleasing, amazing Counselor. He is our miracle-working Counselor who does for us what no one else can!

I just want to pause to thank and worship Jesus as I receive this wonderful truth!

Jesus is our Counselor Who not only gives us His wise advice, but He also lovingly listens to us. As we utter our prayer to Jesus, He does not try and figure us out to understand our needs. Jesus knows our heart better than we do, and knows exactly what we need. What a joyous privilege you and I have to be able to freely go to the One Who has all wisdom, knowledge and understanding for the answers we need in life.

The Word of God tells us in 1 Corinthians 1:24 (NLT), “…Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God.”

Therefore, we can go to Jesus as our Wonderful Counselor because He always guides us in the right direction, He always speaks the truth, He always knows what is best for us, and He always shows us the way that pleases our Heavenly Father.

When we do not know how to be an effective parent, Jesus is our Wonderful Counselor. When we are not certain what the next step is to take in our career, Jesus is our Wonderful Counselor. When we are not able to resolve a family conflict, Jesus is our Wonderful Counselor. When we have difficulty in sorting out our finances, Jesus is our Wonderful Counselor.

Keep a daily appointment with your Wonderful Counselor, Jesus. He is always there, waiting to listen to you, to guide and counsel you, and to bless you. Immerse yourself in the Word of God, for this is where God reveals to you His wisdom and counsel. Pray and seek the leading of the Holy Spirit, for the Holy Spirit leads you to hear the divine Voice of God. Be planted in our church family at River, for it is the mature believers in your midst whom God often uses to impart wise counsel to you. The Wonderful Counsel of Jesus comes through His Word, His Spirit and His Church.

Let this Christmas season be one where we realize, remember and rejoice over how our Lord Jesus longs to minister in our lives. Yes, Jesus is our Wonderful Counselor. Have a wonderful Christmas.

Join me in this prayer.

“Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for giving me this precious and wonderful Gift of Your Son, Jesus. I thank You that I have Jesus as my Wonderful Counselor Who is always there to guide me in Your ways. Forgive me, Father, for those times where I have done things my way without seeking Your counsel. Lord, I commit to follow Your Word and the leading of the Holy Spirit in all the affairs of my life. Teach me to be humble as Godly brothers and sisters around me guide me in Your Word. I thank You that as I follow Your Wonderful Counsel, You are working miracles in my life. Praise You, O God. In Jesus’ Name, I pray. Amen.”
