Joy Never Goes Silent

Isaiah 12:2-6 AMP
2 Behold, God, my salvation! I will trust and not be afraid, for the Lord God is my strength and song; yes, He has become my salvation.
3 Therefore with joy will you draw water from the wells of salvation.
4 …Give thanks to the Lord, call upon His Name and by means of His Name…; declare and make known His deeds among the peoples of the earth, proclaim that His Name is exalted!
5 Sing praises to the Lord, for He has done excellent things [gloriously]; let this be made known to all the earth.
6 Cry aloud and shout joyfully…for great in your midst is the Holy One of Israel.

In this world where it seems like darkness is increasingly looming over and violence and brokenness are on the rise, it is a challenge for us to be people of joy. This only reminds me that we cannot have true and complete joy on our own. We need God to daily fill and sustain us as we face the frustration, anger, hurt and bitterness in us and all around us.

When we look at the grim situations around us or when we lament how others seem to be prospering while we are not, we must remember God is our Salvation. He is the only One who gives and sustains our wholeness. It is in this remembering and trust that we are able to have joy and hope every morning when we wake up to face another day. It is with this joy and hope that we go to God and His Word to seek His strength and help that we need for the day ahead. In so doing, we are allowing the presence of Christ to be in the midst of our daily life, guiding us to live by our faith in God and His promises, and not by how we feel.

When Christ is our strength and our song, we have a joy every day amidst all that we face and feel. Our feelings, the situations in our own life and in the world at large, cannot take away our ability to have joy. Rather, is our joy in Christ that brings us to a place where we can endure and overcome our feelings and situations, and be comforted in the difficult times. Joy in Christ does not mean we have to be always happy and be in favorable conditions. It simply means we have the inexhaustible wells of salvation in Christ no matter what we face. Our joy in the Lord is in knowing the love of our God is present every moment and in every circumstance.

When we are strengthened and sustained by the living waters of Christ, it helps us to be people of joy that our family, our community and our world need so desperately today. As I mediate on Isaiah 12:4-6, the Lord begins to show me that people of true joy are never silent. In these short three verses, we read about giving thanks, calling upon God’s Name, declaring, making known God’s deeds, proclaiming, singing praises, crying aloud and shouting joyfully. God has called us to be people of joy so that we are never silent but always blessing His Name by telling others how good our God is!

Let us be people of joy being used by Christ in ways that offer comfort and hope to the many people who need to hear that Christ loves them and so do we. You and I ought to be believers of Christ who never cease to proclaim to others that Jesus is their salvation and invite them to receive Jesus into their lives.

Begin today to always draw from the wells of salvation. You will find that the living waters not only give you strength, wisdom and hope to meet your needs, they are more than able to meet the needs of others too.

Let us pray.

“Dear Heavenly Father, I thank You that You are our Good and Faithful God who never changes. You are the only One who deserves all my praise. I put my hope in You for only You are my Salvation, my Strength and my Joy who can take me above all my situations. Give me new revelation and insight each day when I read Your Word so that I have a deeper knowledge of who You are and thereby grow daily to be a more effective ambassador of Christ, winning souls for Your Kingdom. Let my lips never cease to bless You by telling others about Your love and goodness. In Jesus’ Name, I pray. Amen.”
